Tengkera Mosque

Tengkera Mosque

In the past, Melaka was nicknamed ‘Mecca’s Porch’ because of the spread of Islam in Malaya that started from Melaka as a result of the main trading activities in the archipelago. According to the findings, this mosque was built in 1728 and automatically makes this mosque a proof of the arrival of Islam hundreds of years ago in this archipelago.

The uniqueness of this mosque lies in the architecture of its roof which has 3 layers & the shape is exactly like a pyramid or a limas house. The tower of this mosque is also very unique because its shape has a slight resemblance to the Pagoda building which seems to be the same as the Leaning Tower in Teluk Intan.

Tranquerah Mosque (Malay: Masjid Tengkera) is a mosque in Malacca City, Malacca, Malaysia. It was built in 1728 and located next to tomb of Sultan Hussein Shah of Johor and used to be the state mosque of Malacca before the establishment of Al Azim Mosque in 1990.
