Fishing Museum, Tanjung Balau, Kota Tinggi District, Johor, Malaysia

The Tanjung Balau Fishing Museum in Johor is the only fishing museum in Malaysia.

And maybe because this is a museum and the location is quite remote, there are not many visitors.

Regardless, this small museum is ideal for introducing children to the life of fishermen and sailors.

Not only are there models of canoes or boats that they use in the sea, but there are also types of fish traps that are traditionally used.

Apart from that, it also records the beliefs of fishermen, knowledge about the stars and also artifacts from Chinese shipwrecks that sank in the Desaru area .

There is material to read, and there are also small dioramas that are quite beautiful and dramatized.

For those interested in art, you can visit the carving area that is usually made at the end of the boat.

At the museum grounds there are also Malay fishing boats including traditional boats, Petawali bird boats and beautiful Payang boats decorated with clouds like those commonly used by fishermen on the east coast. And outside, there is a beachside area for you to dip your feet while enjoying the sea breeze.

Anyway, we think that among the many museums that exist, this is one of the museums with exhibits in Malaysia that are produced with style and love.
