Pulau Gaya Tourist Attraction

The state government is planning to relocate Gaya Island and make it one of the tourist destinations, said Chief Minister Seri Hajiji Noor.
It is said that Gaya Island has the quality to serve as a tourist destination but with the squattering area of the island it has stifled the plan.

“The idea has been around for a long time and now the state government is planning to put them (squatters) to get a house that the government will build later in the Sabah mainland.
“Gaya island has a special history for us and it is only five minutes from the city by boat…we need to take advantage of this opportunity,” he said at the Ramadan Loving Hiking Program at Gaya National School, here today.
He said the House of Representatives under Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya also planned to build a health clinic on the island.
“What is important is that the people here need to maintain unity, safety and cleanliness,” he said.
Presented by the State Assemblyman (ADUN) Petagas Datuk Awang Ahmad Sahar Awwari who also delivered school aid to 70 students.
Later, Hajiji along with Awang Ahmad Sah, Shahelmey, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Ariffin Arif and Director of the Sabah Foundation Datuk Ghulam Haidar Bahadar Khan presented Aidilfitri’s contribution to the community.
